Garston Manor, Watford, has been described as ‘one of the finest and most dignified medium-sized estates in the county of Hertfordshire’. This was the opinion of Stafford Bourne, son of one of the founders of the London store, Bourne and Hollingsworth, who lived here with his parents and siblings for ten years, from 1911. Built around 1813 and situated in 21 acres of park and woodland, Garston Manor provides the perfect ambience for any special occasion. With ample car parking, we are located within easy reach of the M1, A41 and M25. The building was acquired by O’Neill Enterprises in 1997 and has undergone several years of refurbishing to bring it back to its former glory. The estate was sold to the Bournes by a member of the Watney family. Claude Watney’s wife liked to receive visitors on the steps of her home with a snake twined round her arm. She was also responsible for some oriental décor in the house. After story of Sohrab and Rustruro, her bath had wicker caging round it. The very heavy doors of her Persian Room are of leather with metal shields and bosses, still in position. The entrance leads to a large atrium with a lovely mosaic floor and a rounded transparent dome. The hallway leads to a comfortable panelled lounge, a larger room to seat 60 and the ballroom, an elegant room with a large chandelier and matching wall-lights. Parties and weddings are just two of the many functions offered at Garston Manor. For events for larger numbers, a marquee can be erected. The ballroom overlooks our magnificent lawns and woodland and will seat 100 guests for a formal meal. The Manor House provides additional rooms for buffets, conferences, bar or disco. Our excellent in-house caterer will simply enhance your conference or special event. Team-building events can be staged for companies. Smaller groups are welcome. Enquiries welcome on 01923 663875.
